ABOUT THE ESSENTIAL HANDBOOK

The Essential Handbook has two purposes:

  • To help you to pass the IBC exam;
  • To improve your English and communication skills.

So how does the book do this?

First of all, it focuses closely on the IBC syllabus, point by point. The first part of the book consists of ten chapters, each one relating to a specific Learning Outcome of the IBC syllabus.

The second part of the book guides you in great detail through fifteen typical exam questions, showing you how to answer them, what the examiners are looking for, and where the marks are awarded.

Finally, the book explains over 400 words of English vocabulary, which are used in the book, plus over 250 business and communications technology terms that you need to know.

Throughout the book there are exercises, designed to help you to improve the skills that the chapter teaches you about. You will also have some fun while you are learning! Some of these exercises are for you to try on your own, while others work best in a group.

As a student, you have three resources to help you pass the exam:

1. Your teachers.

2. Your textbooks.

3. Yourself.

The Essential Handbook is not designed to replace your teachers, but together with them, it will give you all the information and confidence that you need. Then you will have the best possible chance of passing.

Teachers and lecturers will also see that The Essential Handbook  provides you with a logical framework that will let you plan your lessons to maximise their effectiveness. You will see in real detail how answers are marked, so you can show your students how they can do what the examiners want.

There are detailed chapters on summarising and letter-writing, two of the most important aspects of the exam, as well as chapters dealing with a host of other typical IBC questions. This book is an excellent resource for teachers, too. And no other book can give you all this information.
